We fly long distances out here on patrol in the Outback. Whilst airborne we can get diverted to another emergency. You might takeoff for an uncomplicated interhospital transfer of a stable patient, then get called to a sudden car accident on a remote road in the middle of nowehere.
The aircraft have changed over the years, so has the medical equipment and communications but the role of the Flying Doctor remains the same. We are the frontline of emergency care in the Outback. Our bases are positioned strategically so that anypoint in Australia can be reached within 2 hrs flight from one of the sites.
